The Workout Scale
As we kick off the new year, let's remember that your health doesn’t go on pause—it's a lifestyle. This year is about being clear with your goals, embracing the journey, and thriving every step of the way.
I recently read Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, an unconventional memoir filled with raucous stories, outlaw wisdom, and lessons learned the hard way. It got me thinking about how we can apply some of that wisdom to our health journeys. So, let's chat about 'the workout scale'—because health shouldn't be complicated.
Here's how to simplify and level up:
The Workout Scale: Simple, Effective Habits
Hydrate: Drink water throughout the day. Your body will thank you.
Regular Bowel Movements: Struggling? Add more fibre to your diet.
Schedule Your Week: Map out your workouts and then show up.
Sunlight Daily: Get your Vitamin D fix, with UV protection of course!
Cut Processed Foods: Swap fries for salad, mayo for a lighter dressing.
Balance, Not Extremes: Skip the extra cookie; small changes add up.
Steam/Sauna: Promote recovery with a good detox/sweat session.
Mindful Eating: Try chopsticks to slow down and tune into hunger cues.
Take the Stairs: Every step counts toward your daily activity.
NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis): Increase energy output with small movements like walking or fidgeting.
Pilates: Enhance flexibility and core strength alongside your weight training.
Yoga: Quiet your mind and be present; it’s more than just exercise.
Jog/Run: A great fat burner; start slow and build up your pace.
The Gym: Mental and physical wellness in one place.
Get a Trainer: Invest in someone to keep you accountable.
Small Group Training: Combine socialising and exercise for maximum motivation.
I’m just like you—I train hard, enjoy life, and keep a balance. I have a massive appetite, love my dessert, and thrive on routine.
